COMMENTS & DOCS

  • A bridge would encourage developement.
  • It would radically change the character of the island.
  • Harsens Island doesn't need a bridge..
  • People who live on Harsens Island knew there was no bridge when they purchased.

  • If it has piers it will disrupt the threatened lake sturgeon.
  • If it has piers it may change the water flow and disrupt the ecology of the river bottom.
  • If there are piers it may cause big ice jams and those may destroy the bridge. Then it would be a long time before we could get across.
  • The bridge could be damaged by a boat and take a long time to repair. Then we're really stuck.
  • If the ferry service went out of business we would be at the mercy of the bridge owner and whatever they wanted to charge. Right now the ferry owner has to get state approval of any fee increases. I understand that would not apply to the bridge.
